USF had some self-inflicted wounds that helped change the momentum. I believe USF will learn from this and become much better. I had WKU blowing USF out by at least two TDs so I was not shocked.

💯 Yep, the opening game does not define how the season will unfold.

wku had the 44th ranked scoring defense last year.

They lost nearly everybody on defense from that team and were playing inexperienced players against us.

might wanna check your sources.

They retained majority of their defense, with nine of their eleven starting players returning.

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers have been one of the best programs in the Conference USA. They finished the 2022 season in second place with a 9-5 (6-2)...

Could argue yesterday will be the 2nd hardest game we will play this year. Saw enough good things to be excited about for the rest of the year.

agreed. they returned 18 of 22 starters on a team that went 9-5 last year. favorites to win their conference.

they had 15th ranked scoring offense and 44th ranked scoring defense last year.

turnovers lost us the game. clean those up and we'll be fine.

We also couldn’t stop the crossing route to save our lives

This is part of the USF DNA.  Leavitt. Holtz. Taggart. Strong. Scott.  and now Golesh.

None of their defenses could stop crossing routes, especially by RBs and TEs.

Like the MBB team being unable to make free throws.   It's just who USF is.

It could certainly be argued that, but UTSA and Memphis can make that case. UTSA beat WKU last year and won CUSA. We've only beat Memphis once in the past six tries and they're closer to the caliber of the teams that we lost to the Big XII than the ones that came in to replace them. Those will be good late season barometers as to whether we improved from this game.

At least CAG is building the culture early.

Biggest take away for me was the runs up the middle CONSECUTIVELY. I don't mind one, but two in a row to gain two yards hurts. Sets up a tough long 3rd down.

Bad part is by the time we are 3 and out the other defense isn't even tired in spite of our fast paced offense.

Worst part is with such a fast offense we end up giving the ball back after taking like 30 seconds off the game clock. I like the fast pace at times but you need to work the clock sometimes especially against that type of QB who won't make many mistakes.

Defense is better.   The offense feels Sterlin Gilbert-ish.

Could have been worse.  It could’ve been Gilbert Godfried-ish.
