Hmm our defense under Scott:

2020 39.9 ppg, 2021 34.7 ppg, 2022 41.2 ppg

Orlando’s career as DC:

UConn 75 games; 21.9 ppg

FIU  25 games; 25.3 ppg

Utah State 28 games; 18.4 ppg

Houston 27 games; 22.0 ppg

Texas  40 games; 24.9 ppg

USC  18 games; 29.8 ppg

FAU  12 games; 26.7 ppg

Sounds great to me, to have someone whose defense will allow less than 30 points per game rather than over 40

Houston:

2015: 383.6, 20.7 (21st)

2016: 319.6, 23.5 (30th).

It also speaks volumes to me that he would be leaving Tom Herman when the two of them coached together for quite some time in the past.

Almost anyone would be an improvement, for sure. However, the problem I have is the regression at UT and USC.

I had high hopes after watching him speak at that coach introduction media event this morning. But he calls this guy "the best DC in the country" and he wants us to believe he knows what he's doing? Orlando can only be assessed based on his statistics as a coach, they aren't good and show things get worse when he's the DC.. I don't understand why this guy is chosen.

Although there may have been a falling out in 2020 when he left Herman and went to coach at USC. I could see that causing a rift.

The regression in many cases could be based on many different factors, including your offense’s ability to hold the ball etc.

This guy has not had a problem getting a DC job once his HC is canned, that should say a lot.

This would be his 7th job in 12 years. Not the best of signs by any means.

If this is truly the D Coordinator then we might have a really big problem. 😰

I'm not recoiling from the pick, but this is not the best DC in the nation. Would love to know what happened between him and Herman. He was with Herman from 2015 to 2019 and then Herman doesn't retain him when he takes over at FAU? Kind of odd not to have that continuity. Hopefully, this means that Kevin Patrick is coming back as our DL coach.
