So I did a quick review of Todd Orlando to see his track record as a DC. I just looked up the simplest form of Defense and went with Average Points Against.

Here is the list: School - Defensive Rankings - APA

2005: UCONN - 20th - 19.2

2006: UCONN - 93rd - 27.0

2007: UCONN - 14th - 19.0

2008: UCONN - 22nd - 19.8

2009: UCONN - 48th - 23.6

2010: UCONN - 35th - 22.0

2011: FIU - 14th - 19.5

2012: FIU - 92nd - 31.8

2013: Utah St - 7th - 17.1

2014: Utah St - 12th - 19.7

2015: Houston - 20th - 20.7

2016: Houston - 30th - 23.5

2017: Texas - 30th - 21.2

2018: Texas - 58th - 25.9

2019: Texas - 65th - 27.5

2020: USC - 46th - 26.0

2021: USC - 103rd - 31.8

2022: FAU - 66th - 26.6

 

His Lifetime Average Points Against is 23.4

His Average Defensive Ranking based on PA is 43rd

 

So a lifetime TOP 50 Defensive Coordinator

The one thing this shows is they were pretty good the year he took over and then a bit weaker every year after - with the exception of UConn . . . but still very respectable numbers with only a couple exceptions. Guessing that 2005 UConn team lost a bunch of seniors the year after. Maybe the same with that 2011 FIU team?

The USC and Texas fans started calling him "3rd and Grantham" because of his head-scratching delayed safety blitzes on 3rd down that never got close to the qb....but at this point, any defense is better than what we had....

So what did they say for Todd Grantham? "3rd and Orlando"

Sounds similar to schoop though. Seems like he did a lot of blitzes that didn't pan out.
