Have there ever been college coaches who have voluntarily resigned (not fired / dismissed) 'cause they "weren't working out"? I would think the coaching mentality is such that there is always the belief that the ship can be righted with just a liiiiiiiiiiiiiiitle more time and a change of staff, change of scheme, tweak the philosophy, etc.

If they resign then the golden parachute contract would be void. Get fired and get paid or resign and not get paid.

George O'Leary.  He announced during their last 0-12 season he would retire at the end of the year.

I think to be a head coach you've got to have that mentality but after yesterday, I couldn't blame CJS a bit if he fell on his own sword ........ but if not, you can't fire the players so another DC change may be in order.

I think he was also the acting AD at the time so I'm sure his pasty white ass was covered ...

If we don't hear anything today, CJS will more than likely be here through the end of the year.  I can't imagine things getting much worse after SMU or Tulsa to pull the trigger then.

Smu dropped 77 on Houston.

We will absolutely get curb stomped by SMU.  They should just leave their punter at home.  Losing to an awful Temple team is just plain inexcusable.  Temple's offense is so bad they only had scored a cumulative of 94 points against their FBS opponents.  They dropped 54 on us.  If he doesn't get fired today, he's here through the end of the year.

Houston also dropped 63 on SMU... the difference was two interceptions from Clayton Tune that resulted in two TDs for SMU.

There was an article on the TBT today. Early on he said he has to do some soul searching in the next 24 hours. Made me think maybe resignation. By the end of the article it was about how to make us better. He isn't resigning.

He would never fall on his sword, he wants to get paid.  It is a game of chicken, CJS wants to get fired and get paid while Kelly is acting like we will keep him here, hope they can simply get together and negotiate an out so we can end this nightmare at a more cost effective buyout.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
