Curious as to what everyone thinks about our playcalling now compared to Sterling Gilbert/Kerwin Bell.

Things I have noticed:

1. Less HB dives.

2. still a lot of lateral passing to the flats.

3. More shots down field.

4. More 3rd down conversions.

5. Willingness to call trick plays.

Overall, it seems that our playcalling is better/more varied than previous OCs. I also think it shows us how devoid of talent we had been for these last three years. Receivers still drop catchable balls, QBs still throw questionable passes, o-line still gets beat up.

I'm ok with the playcalling, we just need to execute.

We need to focus on the red zone more because when we get there we don't know what to do.

We do know what to do, it's the execution. We're talking our lumps, but this is not Square Peg in Round Hole Sterlin offense. The D needs to clean up some things too. A little more production from the Dline would do a world of good to our gassed LBers.

D has to also start tackling better. I know Scott mentioned learning to tackle in game and not doing it alot in practice to avoid injuries.

We had so many plays stopped by UF for short gain or a loss if we tackle better.

I guess its promising we have the speed on defense to match many of the UF players on offense we just need to make the tackle.

Agree with what everybody is saying. The problem is still a tremendous lack of size and depth, especially on defense. The offense cannot miss multiple plays every game and have the defense on the field for 35-40 minutes per game. Also the defense cannot miss 3rd down plays for the same lack of depth and ToP reasons.

We use to be called smaller but we were fast and hit hard---in the old days. We ever get 2 D ends that can manhandle blockers and wreak havoc in the backfield we will be great again..Wow, that could be a motto??

I'm waiting for that special running back to appear. Make something from nothing. Hit the line of scrimmage at full tilt. Get us out of 3 and outs. Nothing wrong with just chewing up the field picking up 1st downs. That would open up our passing game. I'm a tight end type, big aggressive w/ hands. Quick hits. Play the short game instead of trying to launch the ball 30-40 yds to someone in double coverage.

In Torrello's preview with Seth for this game they mentioned we have so many injuries on defense they are afraid of practicing tackling in practice right now and are basically practicing it in the games? Charlie really ****** us. Left us with no depth and no QB.

That sounds a whole lot like "Just wait til next year... again."

Maybe one of our current D ends could be let go more. hate waiting for next year every year especially since we just started the year. Hate to say it but, CJL could coach up the D line. We were pretty brutal. Dont know much about our DC but seems like FAU had some aggressive defense couple years ago. Early yet, we shall see.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
