Positional Predictions - QBs

With so many unknowns about this team and the likelihood of massive fluidity in the first quarter of the season, I thought it would be interesting to let everyone give their predictions for how the season will play out at each position. Let's start with the QBs:

Cade Fortin - Junior Transfer (UNC - Played sparingly last year due to injury)
Jarren Williams - Sophomore Transfer (The U, took a year off at a Juco due to Covid)
Katravis Marsh - Sophomore (Saw some uninspiring action last season)
Timmy McClain - Freshman (Lefty High School star that led his team to  an undefeated record and the state title game)
Ridge Jacobs - Freshman (Unheralded, but led his HS team to its first two playoff victories in school history)

 

1. Who will be the week 1 starter?
2. Who will be the week 1 backup?
3. Who will be the starter for the first AAC Game (Oct. 2nd @ SMU)?
4. Which QB will end up with the most passing yards on the season?
5. Which QB will end up with the most passing TDs on the season?
6. Which QB will end up with the most rushing TDs on the season? 
7. Who will be the starter against UCF?

This is nearly impossible to answer at this point, and may be two weeks into the season.  But here goes.

1. Who will be the week 1 starter?  Fortin 
2. Who will be the week 1 backup?  Marsh (This is by far the toughest question, I think. Could be any of them)
3. Who will be the starter for the first AAC Game (Oct. 2nd @ SMU)?  Fortin 
4. Which QB will end up with the most passing yards on the season?  Fortin 
5. Which QB will end up with the most passing TDs on the season?  Fortin 
6. Which QB will end up with the most rushing TDs on the season?   McClain
7. Who will be the starter against UCF?  Fortin

I think Fortin's experience wins out, although the kid is also pretty darn good.  Really tough to handicap the other three, but I think they'll want to get McClain some snaps.  They could want to redshirt him if he is agreeable, but if he is as good as CJS thinks he is, he may not stick around five years anyway.

I agree pretty much completely with @Who'sYourData? . But #7 could be interesting if we suck this year. If we're going into that game with 2/3 wins and McClain has played less than 4 games at that point so playing him won't burn his redshirt, why not just start him? Worst case he looks bad and you lose, which you probably would have anyway with the team being that bad. But there's a good case he shows something that the coaching staff can then build off of and point to for what to look forward to next year.

They don’t know anything anyway. They’re just going with the name they know. I how we start and finish with the same qb and the offense getting better. But I honestly think Marsh or McClain may take the reins and go. Williams might transfer again. Who knows at this point

I feel Fortin starts for 2 years, loses the job to McClain and transfers after. I think Williams stays for two years as a back up and transfers. Marsh will transfer out after 3 years and plays his last year elsewhere. McClain will have a good 3 years as a starter. Of course any injury can change this all.

Cade should if healthy start all year....its very likely the McClain show next season unless Cade takes this team to a place way better than some 3 to 6 win season. 

One or both of William's or Marsh I could see transfering after this season.

Fortin will start but he is made out of glass and will not finish the season.

I think Fortin gets banged up and Williams gets a look and performs well. I see McClain getting a lot of reps the last 4 weeks, ultimately starting against UCF and starting every game for the next 3 seasons, including USF's first Conference Championship and NY6 games.
