USF was slightly better than Texas in the first link. Texas at #89 in scoring in the second one. https://www.oddsshark.com/ncaaf/defensive-stats http://www.cfbstats.com/2016/leader/national/team/defense/split01/category09/sort01.htmlTexas was #87 in scoring defense in 2015. http://www.cfbstats.com/2015/leader/national/team/defense/split01/category09/sort01.html Yep, they played in the Big 12 so he has that excuse. We'll see as the year goes on if he really is a defensive guru. Hoping he is but not convinced.

I think it's a result of the high school play style in that region, they don't have great defensive players. Yep, as I suspected. That's the excuse. Play some freakin D and don't let them score 100 on you.

The first two teams USF played are run oriented teams. So the averages may be "jacked-up" a bit especially after playing GA Tech. But I believe the rush defense will be okay. This weekend will be a good test. I mentioned this in another post. USF's defense has seen 106 rush plays compared to 30 passing plays. And an example of how misleading stats can be, one can say 10% of the time when teams pass the ball USF gets an interception.

I expect it to be more and more solid as we progress this season.

They give up a lot of yards, but they show up when needed (ie the forced fumble and interception in the 4th quarter against GT). We have a lot of young guys and I expect them to get better as the season goes on. What is important is that they are not committing many penalties and have played well enough for us to be 2-0. I am not too worried yet, but these next 2 games (Illinois and ECU) will be good tests and will give us a better idea of how well this defense is going to play this year.
