Doug was the best we had, but our best wasn't much that first year. Greatness came later. To think we lost him to the USFL because of Culverhouse's stupid pride.

...and in spite of McKay's objections! I hope he enjoyed all those years of laughable performance after that--he took his pride and all the fans' pride down with him...ugh.

Zachary.

We could have had Tony Dorsett and Hershel Walker in 77 and 78, but instead we took Doug Williams and Ricky Bell.

The point stays the same but I think you mean Earl Campbell not Hershel Walker.

Doh!

Not really sure what the point was, though. Saying the Bucs could have had Dorsett and Campbell doesn't really make sense. Even if we had chosen Dorsett in 77, it's highly doubtful we use that 78 #1 pick on another rb.

I never want to see a true freshman play at QB again here at USF.

If either of them is in the mix to start, pack it up and call it a season.

I agree.  Unless, of course, one of them is an absolute all-star

I'd rather pack it up then have it packed in

It appears he turned out to be a fine QB (didn't he get a combine invite?) and if Kean or O are as good as him we should be okay.

I think the point was that White started as a true freshman halfway through the season because we were terrible. It would be a disaster if Kean or Oladokun are not starting this season.

I don’t think anyone is debating that White turned out to be a good QB, just didn’t work out for USF.
