So what is everyone's optimism level for next year? I have completely tuned all USF football out since the black friday debacle.

This was supposed to be the year...

Lots of question marks for this 2018 squad.

Please, give me some hope.

We should be good at WR and RB. Will lose two starters on the OL. QB will be interesting. Some here think there will be a huge drop-off without Flowers, but I suspect we will be fine on offense with Kean or Olakudon, based on the extremely limited action I've seen of them.

It's hard to tell. We've never plaid a Big 12 schedule before. :GoBulls:

We'll be decent at the very least.  Our league is very down right now.  Even with our departures, we should be better than ECU, Cincinnati, and UConn.  We'll have more talent than Temple too, but they have a year's head start on starting fresh and thats a road game (where we haven't won yet).  We get Tulsa (road) and Tulane (home) so those are winnable games too.  Out of conference our only rough game might be Georgia Tech.  Illinois on the road needs to be a win too.  Other than that very manageable schedule again.  Tough games will be GT, Houston, and UCF.  I think we can be anywhere from 6-6 to 9-3.  10-2 would be tough, but maybe if we get it going with our new QB I guess its possible.  We should definitely make a bowl again, although it might be a lower tier bowl like Boca or Orlando/ St Pete.  Thats the way I see it going down.

Will be really interesting to see who emerges as the starting QB next season. Kean was the definite #2 at one time, but they had been splitting reps in mop-up duty this year. Chris O. looks a tad more mobile. Not sure which way that goes.

I agree with pretty much all of this. If CCS stays I think the defense is better in year two. The line and LBs are thin but we have two Duke DTs that transferred and might get an LB that transfers in. Secondary should be fine - think we still have Hoggins, Mazzi, McGee and I think a few others coming back. Excited to see some of the younger guys get a shot too.

Willie recruited skill positions so well that we should be set for another year or two on offense. I think QB play might fit  Gilbert's system more this year since Oladokun and Kean can hit intermediate throws better than Q could. Those intermediate plays will hopefully help open up the dive plays that Gilbert loves to run so much. I'm more interested to see who takes the top depth chart position for RB - Cronkrite, Sands, or E. Mack?

That's what I am talking about! You guys know your stuff!

Does Gilbert's offense work better with Q graduating? Also, is it an exciting brand of football (when executed correctly)?

I agree that the defense improves next year. They had some great moments this year with some really bad ones. It seemed last year it was mostly really bad.

We have a DE named Trey Laing who posted 17.5 sacks, 35 tackles in which 24 were for a loss,  a DT who is is state weight lifting champion and will come onto the team and immediately be in the top 5 for strongest player,  a 220 running back who looks like he runs at least a 4.5 40yd. We have transfers coming in and some great recruits who have been waiting for their opportunity to play. I have no worries for next year.
