He also plays not to lose and his players play like that.

Precisely.  Players take on the personality of their coach.  Last year Taggart was brash and in your face and full of confidence and the team played like it.

This year they play for a stodgy old school coach who's very conservative.

If we knew we were getting this **** and it did not work in two years with CWT, why would Harlan hire him? Hell, he forced CWT to change the offense or else...then he hires a three yard and a cloud of dust coach? It does not make sense.

I think Harlan needs to have the same talk with Gilbert and Strong that he had with Taggart.   Time to mandate the high-scoring offense.

I'm quoting this because I agree 100%

This team is capable of more and I've been able to see how frustrated the offense is every game in being held back.

Let them cook.

Isn't he the same guy that was the OC with Strong at Texas?  Here's the easy part of it.  Strong is a defensive minded guy who has no idea how to run a football team.  He is old school loyal which is to say that his way and the people who are consistent with his way will garner favor despite poor results.  They will rationalize why its an execution issue and not their system and if they are given a few years to recruit to their system then everything will be fine.  All while college football passes them by.  Just my perdition,  soon we are talking about buying about CCS contract because of the massive step back we'll take

just my $0.02

Yeah, Strong was terrible at Louisville.  Or, he was great there but somehow got dumber once he left.
