Not if I can help it ... :shade:

Why not just confine all of the JK tweet posts to one thread? As much as each of his hot takes deserve its own thread, there wouldn’t be so many threads that became anti JK if there weren’t so many individual posts on things people would be following on Twitter if they cared to. JK has chosen not to be a part of this community, for which I am thankful, why can’t we just leave it that way?

I can understand the frustration in that all we want is someone to cover the program with just a tad bit of objectivity rather than what we get.  It would be best to ignore said person and remember that he is in a dying industry and will either have to reinvent himself or suffer the consequences.  It has been national news that the once mighty Pittsburgh Post Gazette is now only going to print 5 days.  I can see the Times following suit later.

Here is something to consider...if you replaced Joey you know what you would get?? Another Joey! If you think someone is going to come to the paper and do what Greg did many years ago then you are dreaming. The days of reporting as we know it are way over.

While I think the odds are good that we get someone that has a similar level of "passion" and "respect" for the job that Joey shows, we also COULD get someone that is excited to be covering the Bulls and would do so with the panache that Greg once had. For starters, a USF grad would be perfect for the job. Someone that wants to cultivate the relationships necessary to properly cover a college football program, respecting the program, but also understanding the appropriate amount of journalistic integrity to assign to the coverage of a college athletic department. I would gladly do it, but I have a full-time job already.

Why would the paper want to hire that person? There is no controversy. They want someone to stir up the shitstorm. The idea of journalistic integrity for sports is long gone. Think about Brett McMurphy, Tom Jones, Martin Fennelly, etc. They get paid to be controversial and have a snarky attitude. You even see this on sports networks and radio. It’s all a bunch of crap.

Two of the three people you listed are columnists, not reporters, and the third is Brett McPornstache who was about sensationalism before it was en vogue. Columnists are supposed to be somewhat controversial or thought-provoking. A reporter's job is to report. The lines can be blurred from time-to-time, but there are plenty of examples out there of reporters that simply cover the story and don't make themselves part of it.

I was just going to write your point at the end but did not as I believe that the intent of a journalist is the same as a columnist...to rankle the feathers of the reader. If you notice many journalist still interject their opinion in the articles they right. This is typically done at the end of the article or in the headline itself. Further, by having a Twitter and/or Facebook account many are making themselves more than the article by giving personal positions on topics. The number of good sports journalist may exist, but from my perspective (relative to the teams I follow), I can count them in one hand.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
