Another interesting stat on that site is the expenses per participant (that's is, how much we're spending per student-athlete).  Women's basketball tops the list at $62,628 and men's basketball isn't far behind at $61,337.  Third is football at $26,384 and men's tennis rounds out fourth at $22,427.  All the rest are below $20K/per, with baseball the real stingy success story at $10,456.

Regarding football: It's all about P5 money.

That's a part we can't control; donations, on the other hand, are totally in our alumni's wheelhouse. We just don't have enough donors. Some of the other AAC institutions run circles around our donor base, and some of those institutions are around the same "age" as USF.

I really can't find myself to be that surprised about the basketball expenses. We had international trips for the men and women in 2015 out to Europe (which isn't cheap), and plus CJF is going out there regularly for recruiting (I'm assuming that his assistants go out that way too). Not only that, the women's team is playing in a number of tournaments every year (Bimini and Play4Kay last year).

I could be wrong, but I believe most if not all expenses for the trip to Spain were paid for by donors.

Even so, wouldn't it essentially be a net?

Donation for trip = program revenue

trip = program expense

I guess this is why USF didn't mind the big investment on a promising MBB HC...

I am surprised at the lack of revenue for Football; I hope 2017-18 season revenue will be strong

Hopefully the next University President understands the marketing value of a successful football program.

We are supposed to get hyped up about punting and a rotating cast at QB each quarter while the defense gives up massive runs.

    We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

    "There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
