Actually, Lady Gaga.   Incredibly talented, great music.  Ignore some of the pop stuff and she has some serious talent.

But the reality is that every artist that has made it has a gimmick.  You really think those multi-platinum country artists are really down home people that just hang around the truck in real faded jeans and drink beer?

She was next on my list.

Sure but I think most can agree that when discussing music and gimmicks, the line usually starts with people who dress up like intergalactic aliens or wear spiked leather masks.

Lada Gu-Gu is not appearing in any gimmick band google searches.

Lady GaGa is as gimmicky as it gets.

Do you know why?  She tried being "non-gimmicky" and was getting nowhere despite being more talented than most of her fellow artists.  So she purposely did the gimmicks to get noticed, and it worked.  Now that she has her name out there her work is becoming less poppish and even more impressive.

And involving successful genre crossing. Really enjoy her.

Cohere and Cambria.

Less gimicky and more conceptual lore.

You obviously haven't heard Ghost because their music is exceptional.  I'll admit that they are probably more well-known than they possibly would be because of their gimmick but that takes nothing away from their talent as musicians.

Also, I don't think I would be alone to say that the Misfits or even the Ramones has made some decent tunes.

"Congrats are in order for Ghost as their new Popestar EP has debuted atop of Billboard’s Top Rock Albums Chart. And while a chart-topper is reason enough for celebration, the fact that Popestar is the first EP ever to accomplish the feat makes it all the more special.

According to Billboard, the EP sold 21,000 in its first week, bolstered by the band’s new single “Square Hammer.” The set also includes covers of songs by the Eurythmics, Echo and the Bunnymen, Simian Mobile Disco and Imperiet.

The Rock Albums Chart was launched in 2006 and this marks the band’s second offering to top the chart, with the full length Infestissumam previously doing so in 2013. Last year’s Meliora album peaked at No. 2 on the Rock Albums Chart.

It’s been a big year for Ghost, who started off 2016 winning a Grammy for Best Metal Performance for the song “Cirice” from the Meliora album. The band have toured extensively in support of the disc, and now have the Popestar EP to promote as well. See their current dates here.

Ghost is awesome. Seen them in concert twice. They have the current #1 song on the Active Rock charts.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
