Really this. If he blew off Tennessee, only parents that don't know his history would think he won't bail on the Owls. Still, it's a good move for sure. What do they have to lose there? For FAU that is a home run hire. Two offensive minds, in a state/area surrounded by athletes (even the "scraps" leftover are good). The downside is FAU could end up in probation and everybody gets fired. The upside is they cook up something pretty good before they jump ship.
