Woodie Stays and Calls Plays!

Woodie calling plays on Defense will destroy us.

 

Honestly though, our entire defense has been suspect all year long. There has been no consistency all year long. Whether It's being in the wrong alignment or miss reading plays, the defense has just not performed. We have had a little success in some games but, those adjustments were far later then most fans watching would have enacted them. I believe it's past time to get another set of eyes in the box and put Woodie on the sideline to call out plays and adjustments in person.

 

My knock on this team is that the coaching staff takes too long to identify adjustments and implement them. They just don't react well in the in game play calling. This offense is built to change in a nanosecond, our defense needs to be able to do the same. Yes we need some big guys that we don't have up front. Yes we need better Bigger LB's and the ability to shift from the 4-2-5 into the 4-3 at whim. For now, lets light a fire under the arse of the players we have and push them to actually play for the entire 60 minutes of the game.

The ironic thing about the whole exchange is that Woodie is not a 4-2-5 schematic disciple and doesn't have experience calling plays or coordinating other than the OJT from Tom Allen and his poor showing against good teams this season coordinating.  Even Sanchez could tell this was an iffy move after Allen left if you really watch some of his interviews.

However Wilie was banking on Woodie's experience as a player in the 4-2-5 alignment in college

I just don't get all of the Coach Allen love. He took over for a bend and break defensive coordinator. His defenses had passion but they got destroyed by the run as well... He looks good in comparison to what he took over for. 

I don't get the logic. If he was such a beast coach,  how can his same guys get beat by the run still. People don't unlearn what they were taught in a semester or two. 

I think his passion and energy overshadowed his short comings. And like jilted lovers we're longing for the pain we already know as opposed to having growing pains with someone new.

The coach Allen love comes from him being light years better than the DCs before him under Holtz and after with Woodie.

Plus seeing what difference he's made at Indiana is impressive.   Still judging Woodie is impossible with lack of talent at DE.   Lee and Hill could ball compared to what we have now.
