"But he was a former defensive coordinator that ran a totally different defense," Taggart said. "We're in the middle of the season, so no. We're going to get better -- everybody. So you guys write about that now. Write about that: No, (a new play-caller) is not going to happen, okay? So we're going to get better." If we run the same 4-2-5 out there against Navy, they will rush for 700 plus yards. I really hate the 4-2-5...we have too many small guys out there. We need more meat up by the line of scrimmage

You know, ironically, sometimes CWT doesn't respond to adversity very well. This whole response is a list of things you don't say when answering such a question. He kind of threw Woodie under the bus, then the other coaches ("who else can call plays?"), then the players. A much better lie response would be along the lines of, "We have all the pieces in place, we know we have to get better, we are a lot closer than it looked like. We just need to clean up a few details, not lined up right here or there, took some bad angles. We'll make a couple of changes, but nothing big. We're close." Sure, a bunch of lies, but sometimes that is what you have to do. In the offseason you be honest, but at this point in the season your job is to reassure everyone that the whole team isn't on the verge of collapse. And you didn't do that. I don't think that's insane. It's not comforting to us fans but it's not an insane decision. If we get destroyed on the ground again this week entering a bye then I think a change may be more likely. Finally, I don't think it is a defense call issue alone. There is an issue with defensive alignment and that speaks to poor teaching. And the safeties, Jancek's unit, has been among the prime offenders.

That's funny because most of his answers historically have looked like that. I think he may have said that a few times his first two years about the offense. And he was skewered for either being a liar or a moron. Not saying you did that, just the denizens here.

More than likely he will promote Janacek when the year is over. He needs a whole summer to teach a new defense.

So either it's a guy who has run multiple defenses, including at an SEC school, though not a 4-2-5 vs. a guy who has never run any defenses, including the 4-2-5? I'd be willing to lay significant sums of Monopoly money that Data has done just that in the almost 4 years CWT has been here.
