I started this thread because I wanted to look into attendance numbers, which means money for the program.

(1) We need money for competitive salaries and everything else.

(2) We need big attendance numbers for a P5 invite.

Clearly, the American is not going to bring fans (opponents' own fans) like the former Big East teams, which had teams like WVU and Louisville, among other teams.

Attendance is not all about an OCS.  I think these are unrelated.  Attendance is driven by winning.  The OCS will not help that, but it's about the game day experience, getting recruits and potential students to campus, and most importantly cultivating a strong alumni donor base by getting them back to campus and not just to a parking lot.

The OCS in and of itself will not increase attendance beyond perhaps the novelty of the first year. Winning and excitement about the program will build attendance. There are plenty of examples of that.

What an OCS will do is perhaps change the gameday atmosphere, tailgating, partying on campus, etc.

Clearly, the American is not going to bring fans (opponents' own fans) like the former Big East teams, which had teams like WVU and Louisville, among other teams.

West Virginia brought a lot of fans to RJS, but so does UCF when we play them.  Not sure Louisville brings that many more than the current AAC teams, maybe a thousand or 2 at most.

And as I have already said, the quality of opponent is not worse now.  If anything, it's better now.  AAC has 5 teams in polls or receiving votes.  Houston, Memphis, Navy, etc. would demolish the old Syracuse, Rutgers, and Pitt teams we played in the BE.  Houston would ring up half a hundred on those teams.  Memphis on a good day can score 60-70 points.  Navy can grind you into powder.  Temple should have beaten ND (and then we destroyed them) and those are their only 2 losses.  Now if your talking about "name" programs, as in a program was good 30 years ago or had a Heisman winner 50 years ago, then yes, Syracuse, Pitt, etc. were bigger so called names, but that's it.

If we win big, big attendance numbers will come.  I am absolutely convinced of that.

Those are called "established" teams. All that means is that once upon a time a team was good, but recently they have been just another fodder team on a p-5 schedule.

it's like a cross between the Easter bunny, Santa Claus, and Optimus Prime. But that's only what I've heard

An OCS named Optimus Prime Stadium would be so boss!!
