I know Mack is a eye popping Rb, but how's his blocking? His catching ability? Can he hold on to the ball? I know dernest is a more complete back for sure, if it wasn't for such a desperate season for excitement n big plays could have the more complete back had a opportunity to show it?

I think Mack caught on to the college game and system last season faster than Johnson.  One thing I think everyone has to remember is Johnson is really really good.  I mean the separation between the two talent wise is not that big.  He's a different type of runner than Mack is though.  He's also a really good receiver and blocker, as we found out later in the season last year.  Do I think he's capable of beating out Mack?  Yes.  Do I think he will? No.  Sometimes it's first come first serve.  But I can see a situation where if an injury occurs, because we know they do, where he could take the job and keep it.  He is really good.

WhatYaSay, welcome to the board. Gotta say, I think you sound a bit like D'Ernest Johnson's family member here.

Best answer I can think of is that Mack has earned the start on week 1, but if there's a dropoff and DJ or Tice show up better, they could get a start.

Mack is the best RB on the roster though, IMO.

We are so set at RB. I can't think of another time we have had this kind of depth.

I don't think Mack will have a 1k season this year if we have a QB that can run and throw. He should have some nice long runs though if the offense can mix it up.

Well... how many times has Taggart had a 1,000+ yard rusher?

every year except the year Shaw was the starter.  He's had 2 rushers run for over 1800 yards... He has a pretty good history with backs and rides the hot hand.  Taggart has 2 RBs currently on NFL rosters.  Andrews and Rainy.

That was my point. And Shaw was well on his way untill he got injured.

DJ could be every bit as good, but Mack is more of a home run threat any time he touches the ball IMO.

If I recall correctly, DJ was supposed to start last year but for whatever reason Mack ended up with most carries. I can't remember the exact situation (injury to DJ or just big home opener from Mack).

Either way it's like 1a and 1b... not that much difference in my mind.
