I'll add to the pile on. I don't see how a name on a jersey changes the selfishness quotient of a player

On or off, no big deal. The names are there for two major reasons, players' egos and tv viewers unfamiliar with the team. The majority of the people in the stadium cannot read the names without binoculars.

putting the word "team" on the jersey in lieu  of the name sounds like a pee wee league gimmick

It makes it easier for the school to justify their exploitation of the players when they are only referred to by number and not a name.

I don't give a **** if they have their names on the jerseys or not, I'm fairly familiar with the jersey numbers and if I'm not sure, I'll check the numbers at the next break in the action. All I care about is them not doing some crap like putting "The Team" there in lieu of names

It's funny how the times have changed.

I remember everyone liking the fact that we had no names on the back of the jerseys in the inaugural season.

Agreed. I think the consensus now, though, is that it's better to have names because most of us know some but not all the players' numbers. At least that's the case for me.

This is just a note:

USF had  winning seasons with the names.

USF has had a losing season without the names.

Not causation, but correlation

With all the chatter CWT has had to endure, here's one for the back of his polo:

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
