Amid criticism, USF’s Sterlin Gilbert says time needed to master offense

Published: November 15, 2017

Though most coaches prefer to insulate themselves from cyberspace during the season, Bulls offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert clearly has caught wind of the criticism heaped on his power-based, push-the-tempo system.

On Wednesday, he responded to it. Sort of...

If only he'd taken the time to master last year's offense.

Change it up when you lose your perfect fit for the GCO senior QB.

What a fool.

He's honest. Might not like the answer but could be something to it.

Not exactly going out on a limb with that reply.  But when will the team have had enough "time" to master this new offense?  We have two regular season games left, ffs.

I'm fine with the improvement I've been seeing, but results are what matters now, not mastering a process.  We need to win tonight, and we **** sure need to win next Friday.  Sterlin needs to worry more about calling a winning game plan rather than fans' complaining.  Which I'm sure he is.

Agreed. Much easier for the staff to learn a record setting offense instead of forcing 50+ kid so to learn another offense.

You realize we are not as fast on the edge without Adams or to the edge out of the backfield without Mack, right? I doubt the GCO puts up the same numbers without those two.

One more game to master the learning curve. Ball control will come in handy against UCF.

2 season? Perfect ! Just enough time for them to leave us and get a new job.  If his offense takes 2 years to learn he better stay here for at least 4 yrs smh ..What a bunch of baloney

The idea that he chose to implement this complicated of an offense knowing full well that he'd probably be gone by the time it was learned fully is ridiculous.. Gilbert is a fool. Should've learned the offense from last year and slowly put in his offense where he saw fit.

What's so complicated about this offense? Dive, dive, play action pass/deep ball, or dive, dive play breaks down and Q scrambles.
