What if it is simply execution?

If you want some idea about execution consider a few examples (there are a lot more - I am not counting all of the drops from Welch and McFarland):

Maryland - USF is winning 17-14, when USF goes 3-and-out from the USF 37 yard line... the punt is "blocked" when the Maryland defender pushed the up man back into Ciabatti's kick.  The ball ends up in the end zone and Maryland falls on it to take the lead 21-17.

Wisconsin - A tie game coming out of halftime, with Wisconsin getting the ball.  On 3rd and 11, the pass falls incomplete possibly forcing a punt -- but there is a holding penalty on Johnny Ward, extending the drive.  The Badgers scored a TD to go up 10-3 and take the momentum.

East Carolina - The Bulls are winning 17-14 late in the 3rd quarter and have the ball 1st and 10 at the ECU 35.  First down Adams loses 1 yard on an End Around.  Second down there is a holding penalty, then before the replay of 2nd down there is an illegal substitution penalty - making it 2nd and 26.  After a short pass to McFarland, there is another holding penalty on 3rd down, making it 3rd and 30.  White throws an "arm punt" (an INT to the ECU 14).  The Pirates drove the length of the field to take the lead for good.

Houston - On the Cougars 2nd possession, USF forces a 3 and out.  On the punt, there is a 15-yard personal foul penalty, extending the drive. Houston scored a TD to go up 7-0.

Central Florida - On the Knights 2nd possession, USF forces a 3rd and 10 at the UCF 20. Holman throws a 9-yard pass to Perriman - where Devin Abraham decides to do a late hit out of bounds (admittedly it was a close call, but there was no need to Abraham to even make a play there).  That 15-yard penalty extended the drive.. and UCF scored a TD to go up 7-0.

Now, I am not saying the results of these games would have been any different... but these examples are NOT "playcalling" or "coaching" -- these are times where the players did not execute correctly, with the end result being disastrous for USF.

There were plenty of examples in yesterday's game alone where the plays were there and the execution wasn't that could have affected the game ... The problems this year were definitely not just playcalling ... but does execution fall under "coaching"? To me, that's a gray area....

The execution is poor, but the playcalling is so slow that there is no time to adjust a play or read a defense prior to the snap without taking a delay of game. IMO there is too much focus on presnap movements and complicated plays. Many times it seems like the defense knows what is coming and there is never an adjustment based on what the defense is showing. Case in point is UCF showing a heavy blitz on 2nd and goal from the 1 and Bench never sees it coming and takes an 8 yard sack. That can't happen on 2nd and goal at the 1.

It's a reoccurring theme, it is coaching.

Would you feel better about the offense if the only problem was executing plays? What if you watched game film and realized that the proper plays were called but poorly executed? What if we have a really good but horribly inconsistent offense? Instead of taking the easy road and calling for Willie's job, tell me what you would do differently to better this team. Let's assume we all would want a better quarterback, what else would you do? I'm just curious. I do believe we have productive practices, I believe that they work hard, I believe that the coaches are adapting, maybe it's just something about the lights...

I believe that most of the problem is execution.  I believe this for many of the reasons stated in this thread.

Thing is, execution isn't on the players, it's on the coaches.  You either aren't practicing well, aren't playing the right players, or your scheme is too complicated.  Or all of the above.  You need to fit your scheme to your players, allow them to understand it, then let them play.  None of that is happening on offense.

We were ranked 21st on defense last year and lots more than half of the two deep in the front seven.  Same coaches, so I'll give them a pass this year.  I think the defense showed plenty of life given all the youth on the field.

The offense was arguably much more experienced this year, and there was barely any improvement over an atrocious offense from last year.  Something is horribly wrong on offense, it doesn't take decent coaches two years to get something going.  Anything at all would be nice.
