What would be interesting would be to start nameless and have to earn the name on the jersey. Forget stickers on the helmet, you make plays the name on your jersey starts showing up. Screw up and letters you've earned start to disappear.

I was kind of surprised Mr Porn Stache didn't have the original "The Team" breaking "news" ...

Doubt it does anything to encourage teamwork. That ND team USF beat didn't have names on their jerseys. We all know how that worked out for them.

The efforts need to be focused on game planning and strategy, not hucksterism.  Taggart seems to be grasping at straws.  Is he that unconfident about how he's prepared this team for this season that he needs to resort to this type of nonsense?  I just don't get it.

You look up the reason for names on jerseys and it was to make it easier to ID players, not enlarge egos. And talking it away doesn't deflate egos, but it sure as hell is going to make it harder to ID players. Wait until you hear the TV games announced. This isn't USC or ND with nationally known 4 and 5 star players. I bet the announcers will be making more than the usual mistakes on IDing players. And that won't sit well with parents.

Another reason I found online for not doing it was to save money. I doubt USF is that poor yet.

Holy frontbutt. More embarrassing blunders from our athletic department.

I know there's "no such thing as bad press," but really?

Announcers, and more accurately, their spotters, ID players by their number, not name if there is one ... Parents will be fine.

Quick glance at the roster and 2, 6, 8, 9, 11, 15, 16, 18, 25, 26, 37, 48, and 61 are used by more than one player.  I wish they wouldn't  do that.

They play on opposite sides of the ball, but it could get a little confusing on special teams.

Eve on special teams they aren't allowed to be on the field at the same time.. one would have to change their number, see USC-Colorado a couple years back. Only thing is now the number change has to be made aware to the lead ref so he can announce the change.
