Longtime Voice of the Bulls Jim Louk (play by play) and Mark Robinson (analysis) will return for their 18th season in the booth. The highly respected pair has broadcast every game in USF program history and bring in-depth analysis and perspective to every Bulls football broadcast. The longtime Bulls radio team will welcome the addition of USF standout linebacker and all-time leading tackler Kawika Mitchell in the role of sideline reporter in 2014. The 2003 second round NFL Draft pick went on to win a Super Bowl with the New York Giants in an eight-year NFL career. “We are thrilled to add a Bulls’ legend like Kawika Mitchell to an already outstanding broadcast team,†USF Director of Athletics Mark Harlan said. “Jim (Louk) and Mark (Robinson) have been providing one of the best college football broadcasts in the nation for years, and I know our fans will really enjoy the opportunity to hear from Kawika and the additional insight and perspective he will bring.†Mitchell’s addition gives the Bulls’ game broadcast team the strength of a pair of standout out collegiate and NFL players to provide experienced analysis. Robinson was also an All-American safety at Penn State prior to a seven-year NFL career that concluded in Tampa Bay. USF game broadcasts will again be aired on 98.7-FM The Fan, the Bulls’ flagship station, as well as 1010-AM WHFS in the Tampa Bay area. Nine radio affiliates across the state of Florida will carry Bulls’ football in 2014, spanning the length of the state from Miami to Jacksonville. (See complete list below) Jim Lighthall and Justin Pawlowski, radio personalities from 98.7-FM The Fan, will again serve as hosts for the USF football pregame and postgame shows. The pregame show airs two hours prior to kickoff. Lighthall returns for his 18th season of USF football and has been on USF’s men’s basketball broadcast team for the past 17 seasons, serving in the play-by-play role for the past seven seasons. The 1990 USF graduate has been working in the Tampa Bay radio market since 1987 and has spent time on the Tampa Bay Lightning Radio Network in addition to covering NFL action for ESPN Radio. Pawlowski, a former UConn football player, has been on Tampa Bay sports radio since 2002 and has handled USF pre- and postgame show duties since 2007. Pawlowski finished his degree at USF while getting his broadcasting career started and he signed on as a network anchor for the Buccaneers Radio Network in 2011. Fans can catch Lighthall and Pawlowski on 98.7 The Fan’s “Fan Interference†show weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon. Louk and Robinson have been the voice of USF football for every game since the program’s inaugural campaign in 1997 – a span of 201 consecutive games. Louk came to USF in 1983 as the radio play-by-play announcer for USF men's basketball and served as the lead voice until the conclusion of the 1996-97 season when he transitioned to football. Louk has handled USF TV play-by-play broadcasts on SportsChannel, Fox Sports Florida, and Bright House Sports Network, and his career includes nearly2,000 play-by-play broadcasts of USF events, including football, men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's and women's soccer and volleyball. Robinson was an All-American safety at Penn State, and as a junior he helped the Nittany Lions win the 1982 national championship led by Hall of Fame coach Joe Paterno. Robinson went on to play seven seasons in the NFL after being drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in 1984. He played for Tampa Bay from 1988-90 and finished his career with 15 interceptions after picking off 12 passes as a Buccaneer. Mitchell played linebacker for the Bulls from 1999-2002 and his 367 tackles still top USF’s career list. Mitchell spent eight seasons in the NFL with the Chiefs, Giants, Bills and Saints, and he became USF’s second-ever Super Bowl champion when he helped the Giants beat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. Mitchell returned to USF to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in interdisciplinary social sciences this past spring. “Kawika will be a great addition to our crew,†Louk said. “He’s a true Bull, and I know he’ll bring the same intensity to the broadcast booth that he did to the playing field.†Louk and Robinson also return as hosts for the USF Football Show that will air on Thursday’s during the fall, starting Thursday, Aug. 28, on 98.7 The Fan from 7-8 p.m. Fans also can catch the show on WHIM-AM 1080 in Miami, WZNZ-AM 1600 in Jacksonville, and WAMT-AM 1120 and WHOO-AM 1080 in Orlando. It would be a great help to the out-of-towners who would love to watch/listen to every game or at least the option to find the game each week. What say you?
