Worked with Jamie Dixon for 5 years. Dixon is a heck of a coach and unlike UK does not have blue chip talent year in and year out. Also not everyone can recruit, even to Kentucky. Gillespie could not. Even Tubby had issues getting players like Calipari is now. Also the way that UK team has developed from the beginning of the year until now is pretty impressive.

It's a gamble but it is something USF has not done before. Rose, Paschal, Greenberg, McCullough, Heath were all head coaches elsewhere with only Rose a real success before he got here. Maybe letting a young assistant take over will appease the burial grounds.

All,

I am excited at the new hire, all of us are on the outside looking in, NONE of us know what he is like in person.

I am sure Mark Harlan wants to succeed at his position.  Try to have a positive outlook, can he be worse than Stan???

Thx

jonpfl

How is this even a question?  Of course someone can be worse than Stan.

See, he can coach.....

...on a serious note I LIKE THIS HIRE!

Hopefully he can hit the ground running like Kevin Ollie. UConn went from academically ineligible in his first year of head coaching to the Final Four this year.

Coach O has the daunting task of trying to change the culture at USF. Nobody has come close....

I think you may have hit on something. The last, and I think only, assistant who's first hc job was USF, was fired mid season. I think the only coach in USF history not allowed to finish out a season. Might have angered the gods and giving another assistant a chance may be a nice offering ...

Hey the Latin flair worked for our women's team. That + globetrotter = excitement! and if it doesn't, something is way wrong lol.

I can see Musselman going to Cal now that that position is open.

Now we can go laugh at Marquette and BC and Wake as they drag on their searches.

Another funny comment on ESPN:

"

Wasn't enough for Calipari to beat Pitino on the court, his assistant had to take a job from Pitino's assistant too. Fantastic."

Calipari was an assistant at Kansas and Pitt. Pitino was an assistant at Hawaii and Syracuse.

Point is that these guys start as assistants and get their first HC jobs at some point.

There is enough talent on this team for a first time HC to win.

Going rate that we wi pay either gets you a mid-level coach with experience or a young up and comer.

Time to get over it guys. Either we are place to build a resume or a place for middle of the road coaching talent. That is reality.

This is a first time kind of situation for our BB program. Worked pretty well for football with Leavitt.

BB hasn't worked for the one or two year flash in the pan type of HC let's see what the guy has
