Its like the carrot to make us forget about the terrible shape the Athletic dept is in,   Lets give them( the fans) a stadium to talk about and look forward to, and they wont look at the MESS that is USF Athletics.

We need to fix the AD and culture here first ,  New stadium(shiny and new) will still look dirty and empty when we are losing to MCNeese States.

You do realize that was an opinion piece written by a reporter, not a USF press release, right?

More of a "New AD Goals" article, but they made valid points in favor of an OCS.  But again.  Winning is what we need.

No, an OCS is not a must.  There are plenty of schools at "that level" that do not have an OCS.  It may or may not be helpful or desireable.  But it is completely wrong to call it a must.  There are several off campus facilities for P5 schools.

Nice try Databull.

Off Campus

25*

How many of those 25 are 1 mile from campus?

4

How about 2-3 miles?

10

How many are 4+ miles away?

11* (Actually 10 since Washington is only playing at the Seahawks stadium while theirs is being renovated)

We have the 7th farthest stadium in all of FBS. Who do we want to be like? Miami? Did you see their stands this year? EMPTY! They had a winning season too, that's pathetic.

Two things, they are still off campus and while we are the 7th farthest, there's a huge jump from 5th to 6th. UCLA and Miami seem to be successful programs without an OCS.  So it is not a, "must have"

A shiny new stadium might increase attendance for a few years but if we continue to lose to the likes of McNeese States than fans wont show up just like they don't now at the Ray Jay.  Another huge concern is USF cant do the OCS on the cheap, A lot (and yes there are a lot of fans that support USF because they love the game and the home team) that have no ties to USF but support them, Don't want to sit on metal bleachers or lose the amenities that RAY JAY offers.    Parking and location is a NON ISSUE at Ray Jay as well,( centrally located to most in Tampa St Pete, with easy access from numerous roads and highways and close to the airport, hotels , restaurants and other entertainment  for visiting fans.

Saying attendance will increase based solely on Students or being on Campus is hilarious.  BB and other sports are played on campus and other than last night and a few games a season the student section sits empty and has for TOO Long.  Students cant be bothered ,or have to study, have other things to do or the day and time of the game are some of the excuses we hear on here too often.

Winning will bring fans back and keep them Regardless of where and when we play the game.  ( So may as well be comfortable).

I still have my longshot money on DW making what he hopes will be a legacy saving OCS announcement before his departure.

Never understood why USF rebuilt the Sundome.  Should have leveled it and had games and graduations at Tampa Bay Times Forum.  Also could have saved money and had baseball games at Steinbrenner field.  Complete waste of resources when Tampa already has these other nice facilities.

I still don't understand why USF is building new classrooms either.  There is plenty of office space located in surrounding business parks that could be used.
