South Florida: CoachingSearch has learned that a staff shakeup has taken place at South Florida. Offensive coordinator / offensive line coach Walt Wells and quarterbacks / passing game coordinator Nick Sheridan are out.

Wow ... didn't see that coming.  Wonder if this was forced upon him?

Maybe he has some assistants he couldn't get last year (maybe due to being hired before he had a chance to get them) available now.

Or maybe he is just practicing some accountability and is truly trying to do anything he can to get the offense to work. Sucks for the continuity of Mike White, but hopefully it will be a bit more stable for say, 2-3 years if Willie can keep the new hires.

FYI, Wells was OC/OL coach and Sheridan was passing game coordinator/QBs coach. Wonder if he can get an OL coach in who will snap these guys into line, hopefully with some good training by Hans.

I am not surprised by either...Wells & Sheridan were in charge of the worst performing elements of the football team.

The biggest thing that would suck for White, or any of the QBs, would be if CWT was to leave at this point.  Don't think Wells or Sheridan will have all that much impact on QB, but like you said, maybe OL.  Our OL was pretty bad this year throughout.

Lets hope CWT can hire a good quality OC & QsC.

Anyone have any suggestions based on availability now?

I wont blame Sheridan for the QB play given the roster, but o-line was supposed to be a team strength.  Wells undeniably didn't get the o-line in sync.

Need recruiters.  OC is a big position to fill.  Hope Tags has the budget to get a good one that can recruit.

Maybe he's tweaking his offensive philosophy.

Bring in Flowers as a QB who is a true dual threat and now this.

Hmmmmmm

I feel like I'm pleasantly surprised and slightly overexcited about this, but it kinda makes me feel good that Taggart has to make some tough moves with guys he's coached with before (in Wells I think at least), in order to show he's committed to winning at all costs in the correct manner, especially after Year One.

And yes, being White has 1/2 a season under his belt, and essentially ~7 months with the staff, he should be okay with them being gone. Not like they recruited him and then he spent 3 years with them.
