Isn't Kirby Smart of Alabama supposed to be a top assistant coach? Isn't he supposedly a head coach candidate?

He has been holding out for a high profile opportunity, and it's becoming increasingly evident that he is going to get one sooner rather than later. Quite possibly in the state of Alabama.

He'd be a great hire as well. Alabama has insanely good defense's year after year, and he's coaching under one of the best. If he's interested, I think USF should be

I think he would be a great hire but doubt he would be interested. Like others have said he seems to be holding out for top tier bcs teams.

Yep. He's going to write his own ticket and I highly doubt he will coach anywhere but the SEC. He seems to be very content running Alabama's defense until the right spot opens up.

This... he's on the short list for the opening on the Plains.

I don't know ... I'm not sure that Kirby Smart wants to go up against Saban in recruiting year after year, or be in his shadow. Agree that Auburn will most likely make a serious run at him, though.

I don't see him taking anything less than an SEC job

He makes 750K as the Alabama DC. If Auburn, Tennessee, or Ark can't hire him, USF has no chance. He might be holding out for something like Texas if Mack Brown gets let go or possibly USC.

Would be an awesome hire, but very unlikely to come to USF.
