Shouldn't be difficult to get FSU or UF in for the first game.

I doubt we can get UF. I could see FSU happening though

Bad news....

Bill McGillis †@USFinsiderBillM

Rumor killers: No truth 2 New Sun Dome hosting Miss Universe in December (nice idea though); Michigan State never in mix for hoops opener

I'd lobby for the AVN over Miss Universe

For those that don't know:

I'll be honest, never heard those rumors anyway.

Can we get a few names that are in the mix from Greg?

A) We'll never get the Gators out of the swamp, unless it's a one-game deal played at the Forum with a 50-50 split of the gate.

B) Even if we got one of these teams, why do we want to open the place with one-third the seats orange&blue/garnet&gold.

We need a big name that will draw a crowd but not one that will bring all their fans. I was hoping it was Michigan State, but I guess it's not to be. The other rumor I've heard was opening it back up with Duke like we did in the 80s.

While I would love a big-name team I don't think we have that kind of drawing power. Kansas would be my ideal opponent.

Why would you want to lose our home opener? Schedule UT or FAMU, etc.

I'm with you, but a little better than that so we can draw some people. A middle of the pack team would be ideal so we actually have a chance to win on opening night. Xavier, NC State, Michigan, Vanderbilt, Kansas State, Purdue, UNLV...Wanting a Duke, Michigan State, or Kansas on opening night would for sure be a sellout, but I'd want to give the team a shot of winning as well.

Even more important than winning is making sure you won't be outnumbered, or even close, in the first game in the new digs ...

“In my mind, I’m kind of like, ‘OK, excuses over'. We know what we need to do. We’ve got the right team together, and now we move forward, and we’ll evaluate and be accountable to each other, including myself, from this point forward.”
