You can love the game and the money at the same time. Really can't blame players to want to get paid, and to get paid while they can since many will never have pro careers. You need to get the money while you can since nothing in the future is guaranteed.

Brad hit the nail on the head.  Power universities are first and foremost UNIVERSITIES.  The NFL, NBA, and WNBA  love that college student fees and college alumni / friends donations fund their development leagues.

The biggest change coming down the line will happen in the next two-three years, when "student-athletes" will be classified as "student employees" (no different than other students on work-study financial aid).  This chnange will have a dramatic impact on salaries, scholarships, unemployment compensation, workers compensation, medical and health care benefits, taxation, and more.   If anyone thinks NIL is a big deal, wait until Johnson v. NCAA gets decided.

Completely agree, I have always been on the side that universities should educate and sports are an extracurricular activity like in HS. With the NCAA, CFP, Conference Expansion, it has just created a bloody mess and we have lost cabin pressure. For football and basketball, the vast majority of these kids are here to get to the pros, not for an academic education and that is the reconciliation we need. NIL, stipends, it’s all moving to the same end (paid employees).

I find that hard to believe. Vast majority don't make it to the pros and I'm sure most are aware coming in.

Very true, and college might be their only opportunity to get paid for playing sports.

I believe that a large part of those people don't put themselves in the group that won't go pro.  It takes a lot of confidence to play and hey, we all believe that we are above average, right?

Spot on!! The kids that make it to D1, especially G5 and above were one of the 2 or 3 standout star players on their HS teams and sometimes all-county or state. 90% of these kids believe they can make it when they start their college career. I would bet it’s not until their Jr or Sr years that they start to realize if it’s realistic or not.

NIL? Probably just a sports agency group that gets dibs on him when he comes out of college or if he goes pro? Or they shop his image around for him trying to get NIL deals and get a cut of whatever he gets paid?
