It doesn't take a genius to know people are frustrated.  It's still not a watchable product.

But who built the hype? I think it was mostly fans wanting to see big things happen.

We are returning players from a 2-10 season, that added many transfers from P5 schools but other than Bohanon none had previous success. We hoped that these transfers would improve a really bad defense, with little up front. Then to that we add new DC and OC to face a legit top 25 team returning most of the talent of a 10-3 season.

We were exposed early on by a big offensive line with quality athletes at WR,QBband RB, facing a new DLine with little game experience.  We couldn’t stop them last year on defense and once again we couldn’t. The big difference was we couldn’t control clock as we did last year in second half to keep their offense off the field.

What this team really needed was opening season vs a Howard to get the kinks out, build experience and get everyone in same page on field

then maybe second game vs a MAC team.

Instead we got exposed and ran over before we even took a breath by a Top 25 team. Where everything that could go wrong went wrong and we were down 28-0  in a heart beat.

Lets see how they get their act together next week. I expect them to roll over Howard get back some good feeling.

and then we have Florida which will most likely be a loss but if we are looking for signs would be better game than BYU

and then Louisville we are competitive.

So sit back and let’s see what develops in next few weeks because as I said earlier unless you are willing to drop some millions to athletics right now. This is what we have.

I’m wondering if some of this noise in the system has to do with the way Scott handled the McClain Bohanon competition.  We know how McClains father felt.  Maybe there was some truth to what he was saying and this has divided the locker room.  Man its great being a Bulls fan!

Think they handled it the best they could by naming the starting QB early.

Great analysis ..... the hype was mainly generated from the outside, fans and media. It definitely would have been better to have eased into the season rather than facing that team.

And finally if Bohanon is the great leader that we have been hearing from all sides in the off season, then leading the team after this first game is a big reason why he was brought here.

Im actually looking forward to see how and if this team bounces back from adversity

Somethings I saw had to do with CJS’ white privilege. Now this may or not be the case but if someone told you they felt that the reason the guy on the top of this is seen as the devil that ruined USF football while the guy on the bottom is seen as a hero and was given an extension is because of white privilege how exactly would you explain to them that's ridiculous and impossible? B23CD2D6-ADB7-4BA5-8611-9329D8093A17.thumb.jpeg.fb79266db369093ecc494219eb7a0bf7.jpeg

Well it won't be succinct but here goes:

Because the guy on the top inherited a record setting offense that used speed and tempo to light up opposing defenses, and at his introductory conference he said our offense needed to slow down.  He then had his offensive coordinator do just that, and even the players at the end of the season on offense started calling their own plays (ucf 2017 some players admitted to running different playcall to get game tying points)

Upon losing the quality players he inherited he did a QB carousel forever, then tried to install a pocket passer into an OL suited for a mobile QB and got said QB "rekt" (as the kids say).  The more mobile QBs left out school and succeeded elsewhere to varying degrees (some having been drafted- see Chris O)

He failed to recruit in the environment he was in, he was so out of touch with players that he blamed new uniforms for poor performance, failed to see 7-0 teams faults and make necessary adjustments...etc etc.  Play calling, game management in 2 minute drills, all terrible.

The guy on the bottom was a cheap hire with no head coaching experience taking over a 3/4 win team on a downward spiral, during a pandemic (that affected practices, recruiting,# of games the first year, etc).  So he was naturally going to get a longer leash...which is kind of what the extension was (a freebie for a covid year just like the players got).

Coach Scott also started out with and advantage when it came to salary for his coaches. I don’t remember the difference, but it seems like USF opened up the purse for Scott. That investment has not paid off.

I’m not sure that it is or is not the case but that the one side is clear and simple while the other is complex nuanced and can’t be expressed succinctly means that I wouldn’t make an attempt to make that argument to anyone. This is especially true when you don’t get a lot of words on twitter, when you are explaining you are losing and the environment for such arguments is already hostile towards the less clear position. Most responses are to laugh it off and dismiss it but that’s probably not the right approach and don’t be shocked to see this grow as it is a popular topic in the college world and not many are going to be willing to fight that fight.

Just wanted to chime in and say that management does appreciate you waiting until we lost again to continue with this nonsensical ******** ....

Yes lol. That was a hyped up off season until we got smoked by McNeese St during Taggart’s USF coaching debut lol. Many fans left before half time. That was worse than the BYU disaster lol

No doubt McNeese State was a train wreck - I stayed for that whole game, thinking the comeback was going to start at any moment.

Sufficit to say, I was a bit shocked when the clock hit 0:00 and the scoreboard read 53-21
