The defense needs to step up this season or we are looking like last season

If the defense steps up, we are in great shape.

At no other time does "Last 5" mean less.

Yes!  I thought it was funny and random that they feature that. 😄

I figured it means a lot since we returned so many starters and players from  last year.

How do you define many?  That's a serious question as in what is typical?  It seemed like we cycled a ton of guys out and new ones in.

Well we have all returning oline players, all returning rbs plus more, all the receivers from last year  plus more on offense. On defense we have several returning linemen, 2 returning starting linebackers plus new extras,  and all returning defensive backs from last year  minus davis plus more players.  We have a new qb that should improve our team.  So focusing on the offense the qb play, new oc, and Chad Morris will have to design an offense that Jeff Scott failed at establishing for two years.   The passing attack was horrendous  because of the schemes, playcalls, and lack of player development specifically QB. So let's hope the new OC and Chad Morris coach this team up.

Your narrative building skills are top shelf.  Not well disguised, but top shelf.

I was being serious  to answer his question on defining many and that the new oc and Chad Morris have to coach up all of these returning players and returning production rankings on offense . Shoop  has to coach up the players and get them to attack in his scheme versus set off the line 3 to 7 yards per play. We need the new coordinators  to coach these boys up and develop at a much faster  rate compared to previous two years.  We have lots of returning players that need quality coaching to produce results  on the field and run schemes to fit the talent we have. I'm just hoping Morris, trickett, and Shoop are those guys.

Players often get better than they were in previous years (more mature, stronger, faster, more experienced). Also, team chemistry tends to change when you change several key ingredients (like coaches, QB, and my man Mr. "Freak" Jones at safety). There are many ways to make predictions on how a team will do or how much they have improved, but the only real measurement will be seen at the end of each game... W or L. 🤘

Yeah, the idea that we beat BYU is very 2007.

I would be happy if we kept it within a few TDs, considering the season openers we've had the past several years since Wisconsin.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
