A lot of the transfers are the result of coaching changes. Players commit to a coach as much as they commit to a University. When a coaching change results in a change of scheme, it can leave a player without hope of playing time. Also, many kids leave home and decide that they want to go back. It isn't as if we don't have a long, colorful history of guys transferring in and out of USF.

As for this year's squad, Hill was another potential bright spot. He played hard and just needs to work on finishing the hit/tackle. The kid from KSU was supposed to be our starter and got hurt. Terry started to contribute the last third of the year. The portal is a necessary evil this year. Hopefully, after this upcoming season, we won't be forced to rely upon it as much as we have in the past. The fact that CJS is pulling in some of the quality transfers that we are seeing is an indication that he can recruit (and that we have glaring holes that can be filled immediately).

  • Agree about Hill, he was thrown into the position to learn - former WR.
  • Jones was the Safety from K-State
  • Also WR Gregory from Ol' Miss equal to Terry.
  • We had two years of Brinkman.
  • Safety Williams from Miami came back after breaking his foot.
  • RB Felix has been here two years and fighting injuries with a deep group.
  • OL Hopple from VaTech was on the 2 Deep.
  • OL Jacobs from is a starter.

A few others that were injured and didn't play.

Clemson after having barely any turnover the past few years has had their long time DC and AD both leave the past few days...wonder if its because they know Dabo is going to the NFL?

If so and there's a mass exodus of Clemson guys in the portal...

I would say that our recent percentage of hitting on transfers is right there with our percentage of hitting on high school recruits. If you can hit on just 50% of them, you are going to be ok. The rest provide depth.

WE need depth and recruiters so take any p5 talent you can get. They will more than likely be better than the starters or backups. Then we can have some depth on D and run tackling drills.

Clemson's tide is ebbing. It started with Scott who broke the seal. AD and DC gone. Will be interesting to watch.

9-3 in the big 5 is still better than 2-10 in the g5. All big schools have up and down years. They are developing a new QB and he isn't what they are used too. Clemson isn't bama they are not 3/4 deep at every position. Dabo doesn't seem to be able to develop as many elite players as Saban. Either way 9-3 is a solid year. Cjs leaving with not calling any plays is minimal  impact on them trending down.

Has 2 years left.  Had 4 sacks as and 6 tfls last year. Coach Bowers is following him on twitter.

I hope we literally sign at least 2 more OL transfers, 2 more DL (transfers or recruits), 2 more LB (transfers or recruits), 1 cb (transfers or recruits), 1 safety(transfer or recruit), 1 wr (transfers or recruit), and 1 rb (transfer or recruit), 1 qb transfer preferred to be a spot starter/compete for job. Other than QB/OL I don't care if they are recruiting or transfers but we got to build depth and create more competition.  We need to teach some basics especially on D, for example like having enough depth to run tackle drills. Teach the boys in the trenches on both sides to get nasty and go after the other linemen. CJS this is year three and the card are stacked against because your last two classes have been near the bottom of the AAC. Lets turn this around and prove to the fans you deserve this job. We lack talent across the board and several coaches are to blame for piss poor recruiting and development. I think CJS sees it because he is getting more transfers, but we can't afford to improve by 1 win and win 3 games next year. It is literally bowl or bust if we want to go to the new big 12 .

And I saw a Cincy Bearcat from Lake City has entered the portal.
