Nothing that was said overwhelmed me. The statement merely invoked empathy and pity.

Did he teach you Austin 3:16?

If you go to W. Tampa and are not 100% satisfied with your medianoche, I'll personally refund your money (from the $100 TigerJay still owes me).

But did he teach you about sin?  Because you sure seemed confused when it was pointed out to you that the church teaches that there are other  things people do that make them sinners besides gay sex.

And one of the problems with church is that they, not the Big Guy, arbitrarily assign different value to the different sins .... a sin should be a sin.

It's pretty bad when a statement of fact with no air of judgment from the poster whatsoever evokes empathy(I believe sympathy was the word you meant to type)  and pity to the crowd who preaches "tolerance."

Whoa now... don't go trying to get the Pope to make my eating a medianoche on a Friday during Lent and dropping a few bucks to lock down the spaceship at 2001 the same crime. What the hell is wrong with you, Trip?!?

Completely agree, and I will submit that many, if not most, churches do treat sin as sin.  It's the ones that don't that ruin the reputation of the other ones.

If empathy is still defined as "the feeling that you understand and share another person's experiences and emotions", then that's 100% the word that I meant.

But you clearly didn't understand and share his experiences and emotions - you made it clear that you disagree with his statement.  And generally sympathy is associated more with pity than empathy.  So no, I don't believe that you used the correct term.
