I kind of, sort of, maybe, get why being at least average at football eludes us. Baseball is the proof we are bad at doing positive things within the athletic department. We have enough money to hire competent coaches. We have pretty nice facilities. We play in Florida. The fact that we get smoked by teams from Connecticut and Ohio is indefensible. It is complexing. Uconn owned us in baseball most years.

We own a 35-29 advantage over Uconn and other than a bad run in '16 and '17 in which we lost 6 in a row, we have controlled the series

We have an all time record of 1,628-1,293-6 ... that's above average. 195-169-1 since joining the AAC and made 3 NCAA tournament appearance during that time .... that too is above average

There are 13 D-1 programs in Florida including UF, FSU, and UM who are P5. Not only are we recruiting against those guys, you are recruiting against P5's from across the country especially the Southeast. We had a solid recruit flip to South Carolina this past fall. Most top recruits are headed to the SEC or ACC if not beyond. As for the other schools in the state, many of them have solid programs and can offer similar to what we offer. We are better than average compared to the 300+ teams in men's baseball. Over the past decade, we've been in the top 100 most years. That being said, we should be better than that. Football is a different animal. With baseball, a school gets 11.7 scholarships. That means if any AAC team wants to dip into Florida for a kid, his family is going to be paying a ******** of money to send him out of state to play baseball if he gets a 50% scholarship. Our 50% means his family pays $5K a year and going to UConn, for example, costs $10k. No one gets 100% in baseball. You can't do it with 11.7 scholarships and a 30 man roster. Yes, we will always lose out on a kid who wants to go to Vandy and pay the money difference or a kid who gets a 20% offer from Florida vs. our 50%-60%. But we, theoretically, have tons more kids to choose from than the rest of the AAC is picking from that will cost WAAAAAAY less. Florida crushes the rest of the AAC in D1 talent. When you remove UF, Miami, and FSU from the equation, we still have more talent than Connecticut. Ohio, Louisiana, etc. That means we're straight up missing out on talent evaluation or kids are choosing not to go to USF and picking UCF, FIU, FAU, FCGU, etc. over us because they think they're better programs. Still, 36-29 is nothing to brag about. Especially when they did it with the worst facilities in the BE and the AAC (they have since upgraded). We will get the occasional kid who want's to stay home (we have one of those in the '21 class), but most head to P5 and of course the history of UF, FSU, and UM win more often that not. As for the rest of the D-1 programs in Florida ... what makes us so much more special than most of them? Connecticut, Louisiana, and Ohio don't have to have as much talent as Florida, but I know that Louisiana and Ohio have quite a bit.
