A couple of interesting facts since our win at Notre Dame almost 9 years ago:

  • We are 0-5 on the road against Top 25
  • We are 0-6 against non-conference Top 25 teams, losing by an average of 26.2 points
  • We are 2-15 against Top 25 teams (only wins against #22 Temple in 2015 and #22 Navy in 2016)

Additionally, we have lost 5 straight against Top 25 teams, losing by an average of 24.2 points. So, while I know I am excited about the upcoming non-conference schedule, we are likely to get our doors blown off. 2007 to 2011 was a long time ago.

Well 5 of those years we had quite a bad team...hoping we can turn things around.

The one that sticks out was that FSU game at home with Flowers...very disappointing in loss that fell on a bad defense.

Wow...that is so sad.

More fun numbers but pretty much meaningless for anything this year. We ARE likely to get our doors blown off but it has nothing to do with 9 years of games under 3 different coaches.

Its not meaningless when many people think we are just a couple of players, or one specific coach, away from us reliving the glory years of taking down Top 25 teams regularly. In all reality, the program more closely resembles a low-level FBS doormat than it does any of the teams from the glory years.

We haven't beaten a Top 15 team since 2008 when we beat Kansas, and its going to take a long time to get back to beating quality opponents. I remember all of the misguided optimism heading into the Wisconsin game last year and we gotten beaten like Chris Brown date.

Those numbers are a reality check.

As much as I hate to say it, you nailed it.  The Wisconsin game was a huge let down and flat out embarrassing.

Perhaps, but not as far away as we are from beating the non-con teams discussed here.
