If P5 teams can go without we should consider the option and not simply fill every spot because the teams are available and we are able to, it is okay to swipe left every now and again and everyone should at least try to have some kind of standards.

There are no options. The P5 schools either can’t or decided not to play us. It’s tough to have standards when others don’t want to play along.

They have decided that it is not worth it to fill their schedules with the likes of us and now we are free to not play 4 Sun Belt games just because we can.

I did not try to even force it in here this time, it was delivered on a silver platter and I was even getting requests to address this egregious misrepresentation of history.

I do appreciate the fact that when you're shoveling it, you usually own up to it ....

P5 teams have the financial firepower to make that decision. G5 schools can't afford to pass up any games that could equate to a net positive on the financials.

If there is a way to make G5 games net positive besides by playing P5 teams you better share it with USF athletics because so far the budget indicates that playing G5 games is a net negative and everything indicates that if we played zero of them our budget would improve.

Here are the Sun Belt schedule openings by school:

  • Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina and Troy are all schools with the greatest need to fill open spots
  • Kudos to Texas State who has scheduled 3 non-conference home games, none of which have been cancelled

Can you drop McNeese State in the chart, too?

Maybe you should propose to Kelly that we go independent then.

Probably a bad year for that given that most teams are tightening their OOC schedules but if we thought playing any G5 team just because they were available was a fiscally feasible strategy our dance card would be filled (spoiler alert it is not which is why Uconn would rather cancel the season than reach out to the Sun Belt).

I think we should leave them out because nobody here wants to play anyone we could potentially lose to (which is almost all FBS  and apparently some of FCS).

No one is afraid of playing people that we may lose to, it is just basic risk/reward analysis and when the teams you suggest have no reward for playing them almost any risk is not worth it .

I have no problem losing to FBS teams, I don’t see any reason to seek out the best FCS team to destroy us in a down year, what is to gain from this?
