Leavitt was a bit of a **** for no reason.

It was a fair question for a young program and we had just won the game so there was no need to be an ass.

Could see why McMurphy went out of his way to be petty with slapgate.

Ahhh here it is. Thanks so much for posting. This is what got The Jim in a **** storm. It was really the start of it all. Kind of dickish and personal in my opinion.

I had to go back and reread my post.  As I thought, and as is par for the course we have “word stuffers” responding.  No where did I say hire him.  He’s got a background and I would sure have a conversation with him.

USF in 23 years of football has won nothing of significance.  A game here or there that raised an eyebrow, but beyond that nothing.  Even the God of Football, AHCJL won nothing here or any where else for that matter.  Keep things in perspective.

Perhaps a radical departure is what’s needed here.

So you wanted to point out that he was a solid choice that merits conversion but shouldn’t be hired? The conversation should be so what do you think went wrong and how quickly can you clean out your office? Hopefully quicker than the quickness he claimed he would be scoring with.

let's go really radical and hire a high school coach

Wasn't Tom Herman a HS coach when he got hired by Houston?

Gus Malzahn maybe? but he was an OC for years before becoming a HC. I'm sure there are others. ND hired a high school coach way back when. He absolutely bombed.

No I believe it started way before that. McMurphy used to have a weekly segment on the radio with DUImig. DUImig would go out of his way to say he will never talk USF on his show as long as Leavitt keeps acting like a jerk towards him and his media peeps.

This started nothing... McMurphy had it out for Leavitt long before that. That year started off with a bang when an 18-year old kid used the N word at practice  and McMurphy wrote a piece about it, insinuating that Leavitt was complicit in the language of his freshman recruits who had been on campus for all of 2-3 months (max). Previously, McMurphy also had run-ins with Leavitt. It was an ongoing mission for BMM to cause trouble for CJL... honestly, I don't know if CJL really engaged that much other than to razz McMurphy occasionally. He did ban the media after the incident above. Funny though, CCS's practices were closed to the media, that's not unusual, but, Leavitt took some shots over banning them. I guess it was different then... the media actually wanted to cover USF football... now, I bet the media guys are hoping the new coach keeps practices closed so they don't have to worry about extra work for a terrible team.

McMurphy became USF’s useful idiot.

It started in 2006 and Coach Leavitt had a rightful reason to be upset by what McMurphy did.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
