It does not...I stand by my statement.

These players have little talent. It’s not their fault but they are not any good. Leavitt is 63 years old I seriously doubt he is going to be the same bad ass that he was 15 years ago. If he can recruit I would give it consideration but an inner city kid is going to look at him and say that’s an old white guy. We need a young vigorous coach who can sell recruits on his vision of an up tempo offense.

CJL used to work/live in a trailer. That’s huge street cred, and he’s not a snitch. He’d totally appeal to the Urban Youths

We could do a lot worse than CJL, the man loves to win and his passion would be infectious everywhere he goes.  But yes we really already know what works and that would be the brightest OC we can find.  We need to build a brand around the GCO since it's simple and effective.  And by brand I think we should make that base offense a part of the job description.

BG is 52 years old and has a completely different personality than JL. More intellectual and in control. He recruits players just like him and it works.

He also fell into our lap after being terminated at his previous HC stop. So, he's technically a retread.

Agreed but basketball is much easier to win and turn around so the retread risk is mitigated.

I just think your dancing around a "retread" label is silly.

Ok, fair enough (although I suspect 70% of the board agrees with my position) but if we hire another person who has been fired and is old and tired it could very well be the end of the program. Are there some retreads that are acceptable? Perhaps, but you will really have to sell it. Will I support him? Absolutely, this is my university. Will I eat crow if I am wrong? Absolutely. Will I tell everyone I told you so if he fails? Absolutely.

As with most things like this, there are good retreads and bad retreads. CCS looks like a bad one .... the scourge northeast of here owes where they are to a kind of retread.

Certainly Trip. And when NEB adds "fired and old and tired" to the descriptor, it's even less appealing.  Let's focus on not hiring that rather than someone with some proven experience.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
