The high school my son graduated from had a belt for the basketball player of the game.  So, I guess for the youngins this is a thing.  They were a .500 team and even in losses someone celebrated getting the belt.  Not sure I am a fan of that, because if we didn't win as a team we shouldn't be celebrating individual accomplishments.  I personally wouldn't use a belt for any purpose.  I'd be trying to attain the W, not the belt.

I do remember something like that. I also remember the non-certified Strength and Conditioning coach he hired at Oregon, and the three players going to the hospital because they wouldn't allow the them to drink water while working out. They wanted to see who would quit/tough it out. He also blamed the loss of a game played at home....in Tallahassee... vs. a team from Boise Idaho, on improper hydration.
