That's terrible. I feel for the young man. But next man up. Good thing we did get Macon.

I have to think that this was not a surprise/shock or at least the coaching staff was preparing someone solid to fill his shoes. They need good backups at every position so with any luck the team can find a way. He was an important player to this defense-- hard to replace. Neck injury isn't very specific. Typically serious neck injuries like this in football are related to spinal stenosis. I don't want to assume but this seems very possible. Basically the nerves in the neck get pinched by the bone and cause frequent and severe "stingers".

Guest Jonesy Bull
This is definitely a blow to our Defense this year. Bad news all around. Wish Mr. Sawtelle all the best for his future outside of football and that he heals up soon!

We now have the 3 starters (2 starters an a sub when we run the Nickle), and the next guys listed on the depth chart are TRUE FRESHMAN. We have 8 other LBs on the roster (1 junior, the rest Redshirt Freshman or Sophomores) and they weren't performing at a level to make the 2 deep. We will need guys like Trey Laing and Andrew Mims to perform well in order to be successful this season at the LB position. I know he'll be there helping to coach up Macon because that's just the kind of guy he is.
