Either way, he is one of our better defensive players who always makes the play if he can. I dont see how its such a boneheaded move. Cornerbacks and safeties go hand in hand.  Those are probably the 2 most interchangeable positions.

With all due respect. A lot of times a player is a safety is because they don't have the hip swivel needed  or foot speed to play corner.  Perfect example is with the Bucs.  Rhonda Barber was a great corner, as he aged and his athleticism and quickness decrease they moved him to safety.

Safety is also a more cerebral position, so you also put your smartest DBs in that position as well.  Either way, Putting Jaymon Thomas may have been a desperate move, but its not a boneheaded move as he is clearly one of our better defensive players on the team.

Rod Woodson is another example of a corner turned safety. With that said I believe the reason why they kept Thomas on the field is because of his experience. I assume they knew the risk but hoped for better results. They eventually benched him and put in Roberts I believe who is a freshman.

This

Corner is a vastly more important position in modern football.  If a kid can play high level at corner that's where they go.  You don't waste kids with legit corner traits at safety unless you already have 3 very good starting corners and you have poor safety play.
