FERNANDEZ NAMED COURT COACH FOR USA BASKETBALL U18 NATIONAL TEAM TRIALS

TAMPA, MAY 8, 2018 – USF women's basketball head coach Jose Fernandez has been selected to serve as a court coach at the 2018 USA Basketball Women's U18 National Team Trials.
 
Fernandez and University of Georgia head coach Joni Taylor were selected to assist the USA U18 coaching staff of Jeff Walz (Louisville), Natasha Adair(Delaware) and Cori Close during the trials held May 26-28 at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The trials will be used to determine finalists for the 2018 USA Women's U18 National Team that will compete in the 2018 FIBA Americas U18 Championship (site and dates are to be announced). Finalists for the team are expected to be announced on May 28.

How will he procure European talent from Colorado? I hope this stint will improve our domestic recruiting. If it doesn’t it’s all for not. We will never dethrone Uconn playing around in the Rockies; unless he’s recruiting some lumberjack ladies that are going to be his secret weapon

After reading more on this it sounds like he is just there to help coach/evaluate for the selection of the team, not be a coach of the team. Still a nice recognition.

yeah I don't think this will take up too much of his time while also serving as good PR
