"An on-campus football stadium would be fun, but it’s not what USF football needs right now. Instead, the program needs funding for its indoor practice facility.

One of USF football’s two losses in 2017 was to Houston on Oct. 28. Houston finished construction on its $20 million indoor football facility that same month. The Bulls also lost to in-state rival UCF, which opened its indoor facility in 2005.

USF strives to be a Power-Five team, but currently lacks the facilities to do so. Currently, 62 of 65 Power-Five schools have indoor practice facilities. An indoor practice facility will not automatically make USF a national title contender, but it’s a step in the right direction — more so than an on-campus stadium."

Other than us, I wonder if any P5 has neither an IPF and OCS?

Us and Miami?

IPF should be first.  We have a legitimate stadium to play in so that isn't the priority.  At this point an OCS is a luxury even though it may be beneficial in the long term.  Right now, an IPF is a no brainer.

The question may be, are the P5 schools P5 schools because they have an IPF or does the revenue from being in a P5 conference allow for an IPF?

The only benefit I see is if it helps us get into the P5.

I don't think an IPF in and of itself is going to get us in a P5, but there are many positives to having one and many of these could lead to a P5 invite at some point.  It's like dressing for the job you want and not the one you have so to speak.

the IPF is really just a recruiting tool. The idea is that it will bring better players and that will bring more P5 recognition.

If somebody tells you *insert thing here* is the key to getting into the P5 and that thing isn't revenue brought to the new conference it's best to ignore them.  If adding another mouth to feed to a P5 doesn't add to each of the current member's bottom line then that potential team is a non-starter.

Not sure I've seen that reality so succinctly put ...

True, but if you want to be in a P5 conference then you better start acting like a P5 program.  An IPF is as good a place to start as anything.   Increase recruiting, increase visibility, increase competitiveness, and then we better see some increase in support both $$$$$ from boosters and butts in seats.

Better players = Good TV

Good TV = bigger TV contracts

Bigger tv contracts= a better bottom line for everyone.

Its not exactly an A = B situation, but an IPF would do something in terms of getting into a better conference. Considering there inst much that really can be done on our part to get in to the P5, an IPF is something at the very least. The same can be said for a OCS, but to me, a facility that you would use almost everyday vs something you would play in 6-8 times a year would go farther.
