One of the things that was benefiting our defense towards the end was the defense rotating more guys in. Reason being, it gave our starters a little more rest.

Now, one of the big things for our offense was the ability to hit those big plays. we had many drives of under a minute or two primarily because one play would go for 40+ and a TD, thus putting the defense back on the field already. Strong can't change (nor would any coach want to) Mack or Flowers or whoever busting the defense wide open.

Our guys are talented and should be able to make things move regardless. Catching people off guard is only but one part of the equation. we can slow it down a little. Doesn't mean the offense moves at a crawl.

Strong is a defensive-minded coach, so it makes sense for him to want to look at ways to improve that side of the ball. This is a way to improve performance behind the X's and O's.

Thou shalt not slow down the offense.

All of us would take a slightly less productive offense if along with it came a much more effective defense.  The offense and defense need to have a symbiotic relationship.

+1000. Everyone was pissing and moaning about the D all year ( myself included). I am fine with CCS's position on slowing down some.

We scored a few times due to a fast snap where the defense was not in position and the players scrambling around frantically.

Too  many threads on the same topic, but this is copy-pasted from the other thread...

O's job is to score.

D's job is to give the ball to the O

If O does it's job "too fast", D needs to be just as fast in getting it back!

SMH at the thought of scoring "too fast"

Yes, a few.  He did say we will never do that again.

But how many times did we give up a score after a quick three and out?  Or even a fast score?

It isn't about scoring a ton of points.  It's about scoring more than you give up.  Just because Strong would like to see more defense doesn't mean he's wrong.  People stood behind CWT for nearly three years while the team stunk, and Strong is getting criticized before coaching one play.

I'll go out on a limb and say that the vast majority of those criticizing CCS before coaching one play aren't the ones who stood behind CWT for the little over 2 years while the team stunk.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
