It amazes me how little some of you think of Taggart. Guess what Helfrich's record as a head coach was before Oregon hired him? 0-0. No experience what so ever. Taggart has 7 years head coaching experience at the ripe old age of 40. He has turned around this dumpster fire of a program and has them as the #9 total offense and #8 scoring offense in the country. does anybody think Oregon likes offense?? He has plenty of connections out west too.

Well said.  I'd hate for him to leave but I can't begrudge him for leaving if a dream job opened up.

I'm not the same as everyone, I went to college 3000 miles from home and have moved to different states for lateral positions just to get a shot at faster advancement. I'm also single and not that close to my family. If Taggart is offered a big 3 job someday he's gone in a heart beat but he could certainly enjoy living by his parents and having his kids grow up in the same area he did; if that's the case we may be able to hold onto him for a few more years. We will see which is more important to him money today at the cost of moving 3000 miles from family or making a solid check and getting the same money just a few years down the line but you still get to stay close to the folks. That's all I'm saying.

I'd take the Oregon gig.

USF will benefit from the fact it provides the platform for coaches to get a job at Oregon.  The fan base will be dazzled by the list of coaches that want to be our coach.  This is a win/win for USF.

If Taggart walks for some yucky program like wake forest or Purdue, I'd be bummed.  Oregon HC is arguably the best job in college sports depending on the way you look at things.  They fired their HC for the first time in 40 years.

This will serve as the obligatory "Then we can hire Jim Leavitt" post.

Curious...would any of your minds change if Oregon hired him and he left before our bowl game?

where does this myth come from? Their last 3 hires have  been from in house. The last time they hired a candidate with previous head coaching experience at D1 level was in 1951. They can't hire anyone.

The fact is that a 40 year old with 7 years head coaching experience that has turned 2 programs around, currently has his team that plays in the 6th best conference at 10-2 and has a top 10 offense will be in high demand no matter what job is in play.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
