GAME DAY vs. #22 Navy

 

USF will look to rebound from a road loss at Temple in which the Bulls saw their nine-game win streak against East Division teams, program-record seven-game conference win streak and several nation’s-leading offensive streaks come to an end.  It will be the “Salute to Service” game with the Bulls wearing uniforms that honor those that serve our nation.  This will be the second-ever meeting with Navy, which won, 29-17, last year in Annapolis.  The Midshipmen lead the West Division with a 4-0 conference record and 5-1 mark overall after a 42-28 win vs. Memphis.

FLOWERS: Quinton Flowers is on pace to become the first 2,000-1,000 player in USF history (just two FBS players achieved the mark in 2015), smash the USF season total offense record and set marks for rushing and passing TD. He ranks in the Top 10 in FBS in yards per carry and yards per completion.

VS. RANKED: USF posted its first win over a ranked team under Willie Taggart last year with a 44-23 win over No. 21 Temple at Ray Jay. USF is 1-8 vs. ranked under Taggart and 10-22 all-time (6-11 at home) vs. FBS ranked teams.

ROLLING AT RAY JAY: USF has won 9 of its last 11 at home, with all nine wins coming by two touchdowns or less. The average score over that span has been 43.5 to 23.1.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: USF is 8-10 in Friday night games, falling last Friday at Temple (30-46) and last winning, 65-27, vs. Cincinnati last year in Raymond James Stadium.

Big game in a lot of respects. Obviously a win needed to keep Conference Champ Game hopes alive. 

Important game for Taggart to show he can actually win a meaningful game. 

Important game for Woodie to prove he is a capable DC. 

Important game for the program because a loss here really tanks the casual interest for a program trying to build attendance. 

I believe this game also has importance towards next season. Even we can't get to a championship game this year, we have mostly everyone coming back next year. If we want a New Year's day game next year we need to finish strong and be ranked high to start next season. If we tank the rest of this year we may not even get that shot next year.
