I enjoyed this brief thread more than I should have.  OCS talk, Karate Kid references, worries about losing to Towson due to over confidence, just awesome!

i think this team has a different mindset. I kind of get the feeling that they have a quiet confidence that they know there is a real chance to do something special this year and they are on that mission.

I got that feeling when they asked to run more gassers at the end of practice a couple of weeks ago.

I think we put at least 40 up and wouldn't be surprised to see 70.

Completely different team than we had against McNeese.  In that game Taggart and everyone else was trying to figure EVERYTHING out. Including who the QB was gonna be.  This has it figured out and is trying to perfect things.

Agree with this. They play with confidence and adjust pretty well together. Bad as I felt about WKU game, they could have rolled over like the McNeese game but they played a strong 4th Q, and WKU was lucky to come away with that W. I think we'll be ready to flip the script on the FCS loss tonight.

Who knows on opening day, but I don't think hype, overconfidence or looking ahead is a worry.  Most player still smell the stench of McNeese State, and the near loss to WCU 2 years ago.

Add to that Appy St almost beating Tennessee (w/a good kicker, they do), and Maine nearly beating UConn, I think this will be wide awake.

I do think Towson has a talented (but unproven) QB and a strong RB, so they may score close to 20.  But I can't see their D slowing our O, which should easily score 30, and likely 40+.

Some super obnoxious responses in this thread. USF looks great going in to the season this year, but the past 7 or 8 years provide some justification to OP's caution, not to mention our past history of struggling in opening games. It's not like he was saying we are terrible and are going to get killed. Jesus.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
