My good friends at ESPN. Imagine the void they'd have to fill in December if football ended with conference championships and we waited on a handful of traditional NYE/NYD bowls? There's a finite amount of commercials to be sold for billiards, darts, and Zambian soccer, and the haul is not nearly as lucrative. 

 

And remember, boys and girls, low ratings are better than no ratings.

World Junior Hockey Championships run between Christmas and New Years. Really good hockey. They should show those.
