Not sure if this has already been discussed on here, but feel free to remove this thread if so. I like that the band is in the student section now, however, I thought it was dumb that the band was in the center of the student section right between the field goal posts. I just kept thinking to myself, what happens if late in a game or in OT the opposing team is driving into the student section. They line up for a game tying or winning FG and all their kicker sees is a quiet band right between the goal posts since the band can't play once play starts or is about to start, and how not intimidating that would be. I think you'd want some rabid fans between the uprights cheering and screening loud as can be to hopefully distract the kicker and throw him off. And even worse, if our opponent was driving that way before halftime... the band is out of those seats and lining up to perform, so the kicker's staring right into empty seats. I'd be thanking USF for that. Thoughts???

There's no rule against the band cheering and screaming loud .... the empty seats right before half could be a downer, though.

And the cymbal players can put mirrors in the center of their instruments and direct the stadium lights in the qb's or kicker's eyes. "Zildjian'd", as it were.

Not sure if you go to the basketball games...

The pep band cheer pretty loud and even wave their instruments to distract the opposing players FT attempts.

Usually they're more rowdy than the students sitting in the section right next to them

Yeah I highly doubt the band will be just sitting there quietly on an opponent's game winning drive. And I doubt more that visual distraction behind the goalpost causes a kicker to miss.

Was relocation of the band for acoustic purposes...improving sound throughout the stadium? Given that field goal kicking is improving, I think the environment (weather) might be more of an impact on kicking success than we see from attempted distractions.

My bigger problem is the word "Herd" that screams Marshall to me.  Wish we would have come up with something else there.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
