Flowers was a true freshman getting spot play in a west coast offense where most of his packages were wildcat.  He started one game the day after he found out his brother was dead (having lost his other brother, mother, and father to death) and people are trying to use last season to gauge his overall talent.  I think that kid has a iron resolve and where you see him lagging, I see something special in a guy who has managed to make it through that and to be honest, he's one of the top 3 athletes on the team overall and you're putting in him an offense he was raised running and saying, "just play ball."

Bench is not starting.  Flowers was clearly the better guy in the spring.  I think Taggart didn't want  bench, his senior, to keep his head in the game.  The QB position is Flowers to lose, I think he will excel.  He displayed a good arm in the spring... sure there was the windy spring game but he made some big throws in a gusting wind that I thought were nice.  He's a true soph... I look for him to make mistakes, but he's going to go HAM. It's one of the reasons I think Woulard wants in now... Flowers could create a strangle hold on the QB spot for the next three years.

I guess it is a matter of perspective.  He did not just start one game.  HE WAS NAMED THE STARTER FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SEASON, did not finish the game and never started again (did he even see the field again).  I agree, 100%, that the QB position is Flowers to lose.  It is not Flowers' fault, but CWT is in win now mode.

He should have stuck with Flowers last year.  I do not want to hear about all of the emotional trials,  many of the kids have a story of overcoming, if that makes me sound like a jerk then I am sorry, USF football is business.  CWT will make the business decision of going with Bench at some point.  Flowers is not ready and does not have the fortune of working through growing pains this year.  Tough spot for the kid for sure.  I saw plenty of the spring game and I have seen NOTHING from Flowers that makes me think he is ready to lead this team.

dude... I don't think you even understand what I'm getting at.  I'm not looking to attach blame or anything.  You sound stupid.  READ my comment and understand what I'm saying.  You don't know anything about resolve?  Tenacity forged from loss or desire to not fail?  Mental toughness?  You have to be a weak person to not see what I'm talking about... so forget it... you could never understand my point if that is the case.  Nothing you mentioned had anything to do with what I was getting at.

How about this... Mike White just was not a very good QB and Steven Bench is serviceable at best.  White was an interception machine and Bench couldn't win a game to save his life.  He has been forced to play musical chairs... Matt Floyd? Bobby Eveld? Mike White? Steven Bench?... White was a take because there wasn't anything available that year.  Bench because we literally had no QBs except an incoming freshman and Bobby and Matt.... Flowers is the guy Taggart was banking on.  He was the big get.  He's the first serviceable QB to put on a USF uniform since B.J. Daniels left.  The system is a run option system, something he excelled at in High School.  He's not throwing the ball 30 times a game.  He will be running... a lot.  Passing also.  I'm wondering if any of you even understand the offensive system is different.  It's almost like you're inventing things in your head to rationalize you wanting the school to be terrible.  The past two seasons? Yeah I can see it... but this year... I'm like... "Do you not see what's going on?"

AAAAAAND.. he only started 1 game.  SMU.  Did you miss the end of the season or something?  I guess you had an eye injury where you couldn't even read stats... or see games... must still have it too.

Money line. Mike was more of a true pocket passer and fit the O, but he left for a reason folks...he doesn't fit anymore. Give Flowers a chance to play his game before you get too depressed.

If you guys want to be on the Flowers band wagon thats fine. But im with armybull on this one. Flowers cant throw at all at a D1 level. To say that he has a higher ceiling than bech is crazy, because ive never even seen the spectacular play from flowers that makes you believe that. Bech has an arm, he has the legs, and I think hes serviceable at best. Which is better than flowers

He would have been hammered for leaving a QB in that wasn't performing.  Sometimes the, "talent" can't be developed.

Your comment leads me to believe that you don't think we have a QB on the roster that is starter material.  If so, you are not alone in your thoughts.

I don't know.  All I know is that in limited action last season, Flowers put too much air under his throws for my taste.  Was that nerves or inexperience, I guess we'll find out soon.  Kean and Woulard are unknowns at this point.

The position seams to be Flowers to lose.  Let's hope he's as, "special" as CWT has said he's been.

One thing I don't get is the choice of system from the start.

You're in Florida with mostly the leftover talent that didn't go to the Big 3 but are still quality kids with lots of speed.

So why try and use a pound the ground style when most of the kids were used to playing a spread offense or a read option?

We burn White's redshirt with how many games left?

Now we have two(or had two) different style QBs as mentioned and switching to a spread/read attack.

I can only imagine if we had used this from the start.

:GoBulls:

If you had this from the start, you would have had only one qb mobile enough to run it in Bench. He gets hurt and you are up **** Creek ... and impossible as it may seem, we may have been worse.

Im pretty sure most of you that say he has a higher ceiling than bench are still hung up on his recruiting ranking coming out of high school instead of evaluating him yourself

Sry to disrupt the Bench no Bueno harmony but.... I am not sold that M. White was our best option last season. There were games were Bench was put in begrudgingly by CWT and played better than White. As I and others have stated, Bench has not been given a fair shake by CWT. Even when White had that sprain, Bench did not get first team reps. I would like to see him get in sync and timing down with the offense then we can make a true decision on his ability.
